Who would have imagined Google thirty years ago, or for that matter, the internet. Now, we have twitter, google, internet, virus, bots, malware, and a slew of other words pertaining to the world of cyber.
Type on Google, a word, a letter, a name, and then, in mere seconds, there are almost endless links which lead to other endless links.
There are forums on every topic known to man. There is Facebook. People can now turn on or off the lights in their home via the internet and smartphones.
Foreign countries can hack into other countries utilities. Hard to believe North Korea could turn off the electrical grid in North Carolina.
Information is power but what if the information is wrong? If I had a website and talked as if I knew something about growing potatoes, for example: “First you wash the potato in a weak bleach solution, removing all the soil and organic material from its skin. Then, place the potato in a shoe box and place in a dark place for three months. After this time, usually October being the best time to plant potatoes in the Northern hemisphere. You take the potato and dig a hole three feet deep with soil containing clay being the best. By mid December the potato plant should be sticking up through the snow about six feet. Sometimes though, they plant is only four feet…”
If someone found my site and did not know a thing about growing potatoes, boy would they be in for a surprise if they followed the ‘instructions’.
Point being, Google, or actually anything found on the internet should be studied more thoroughly before being taken as the truth. Misinformation is almost as important as information. We see this in the daily news now, they call it , fake news.
What I just wrote is common sense just as it is common news. I for one greatly enjoy Google. While a lot of garbage exists out there in the cyber world, a lot of good information also exists. Anything from parts manuals for vehicles to recipes for cooking with dog meat.
